Like most women, I assumed the issue was me. If I just weighed less, style would be easy. But no matter how little I ate, or how much I exercised, I struggled to feel good in my clothes.
Lots of little girls dream of having a career in fashion one day, but I wasn't one of them. In fact, I had a love/hate relationship with clothes. I loved them, but the feeling wasn't mutual.
I've struggled with my weight all my life, and growing up, I had a really difficult body to dress. Pants were the literal worst. If they fit in the hips, they were so tight in the waist I couldn't breathe. If they fit in in the waist, I felt like I'd raided MC Hammer's wardrobe. (That reference is for my fellow GenX girls). I wanted so badly to dress like my friends, but no matter how much I struggled, I could never pull my look together.
A twist of fate brought me to work at Chico's, and my life was changed forever. The first day on the job, I learned to dress the 4 Basic Body Types. I discovered my body wasn't weird, or malformed...it was just an Apple. It wasn't my body that was wrong, it was the pants I was buying. Once I discovered HOW to dress my body shape, my love affair with clothes was on! In my time at Chico's, I personally dressed thousands of women of all shapes and sizes. I discovered that lots of women, just like me, were blaming themselves, instead of blaming the pants.
That's what I bring to Everyday Style.
I've spent the last 25 years helping women all over the world understand their bodies, and build stylish wardrobes for the way they really live. It turns out, style isn't as hard as we make it out to be, but most women were never how. That's where I come in.
Can I brag for a minute?
Years ago, my mentor told me my superpower is teaching difficult things in in a way that makes them easy to understand.
Rules,
bandaid fixes,
wasting money,
waiting for "someday".
Great jeans,
supportive bras,
learning "why",
only wearing
what you love.
